Creating the perfect cheese board isn’t just about what you put on it; it’s about how you arrange it, how you present it, and how you make it feel like an experience. Over the years, I’ve learned a few tricks that take a cheese board from simple to extraordinary.
First, balance is key. Don’t just focus on one type of cheese or one type of meat—mix textures and flavors. A soft brie pairs beautifully with a sharp cheddar, and a salty prosciutto balances the richness of a creamy goat cheese. Second, color matters. Bright fruits, colorful nuts, and vibrant jams add visual interest and invite people to take a bite. Third, use height to your advantage. Elevate certain ingredients with bowls or small jars to add dimension to the board.
Finally, think about the season. A fall board might feature deep-colored fruits like pomegranates and figs, while a spring board could include fresh berries and soft cheeses. The key to a beautiful board isn’t just in the ingredients, but in the thought and care you put into every detail.
One final personal favorite – I never allow things that don’t go in the same bite touch each other. Everything on the board needs to be possibly eaten together with its neighbor ingredient.
